Eight-year-old Ryann is incredibly creative.  She loves to draw, paint, sculpt, sew, invent using recyclables, and fix things like toys and clothing.  She loves to read historical fiction like Narnia, Pet Vet, and the Magic Tree House books and even gives her four-year-old sister “reading lessons.”

Ryann frequently makes her own histories and stories of ancient warrior princesses including maps, illustrations and animals from the fictional stories.  She participates in American Heritage Girls, reads to an elderly neighbor, is learning volleyball and continues learning taekwondo.

Since infancy, Ryann has been sensitive to loud sounds.  But in the fall of 2021, she developed a strong aversion to most fabrics, bright light, water on her face, playsets with high slides, food odors, etc.  She has also shown a struggle with self-regulation, the ability to recognize social cues in a group or with new people, following direction, and maintaining focus.  These struggles may have always been present but were amplified shortly after they moved here to Ohio.

In February, Ryann started occupational/sensory therapy following a recommendation from her doctor.  There has been improvement in all areas including sensory regulation/tolerance, improvement in anxiety, increased problem solving and more.  It has been recommended that she receive this therapy for at least 12 months, but their insurance only covers 20 sessions.  Let’s help Ryann continue to improve and thrive.
